Pro Humanitate, Pro Tips: My Guide to the WFU Application
Few things in a high schooler’s life carry as much weight, or anxiety, as hitting “submit” on a college application. And if you’re a high school senior, you likely don’t need, or want, that reminder!
If you’re considering Wake Forest University, you’ve probably already heard about some of the incredible opportunities and connections that await you. Your four years in the Forest will fly by, but they will be transformative beyond your imagination. Before you submit those final applications and make the exciting decision of where you will call home, here’s some advice:
Your senior year of high school is a wonderful time to explore beyond your comfort zone; you’ve put in so much hard work preparing for college, so it’s important to make time for new experiences. While you make the most of your remaining time in high school, just be sure to stay committed to your responsibilities and academics, the things that help you stand out as a student!
If you haven’t heard yet, our motto is Pro Humanitate, and we are proud to shout it from the steeple of Mother So Dear, and embody it in every way we can. The campus culture, including the admissions process, promotes embracing your holistic self and finding your own unique way to benefit humanity.
Your application is an opportunity to showcase the undeniably-you qualities that extend beyond your grades and accomplishments. Don’t tell a story you think admissions officers want to hear; tell one that reveals a meaningful part of yourself and what makes you intellectually curious. Also, my personal advice: be sure to request a virtual interview or submit a supplemental video essay.
The backstretch of your time in high school can be extraordinarily stressful, especially when you have identified your dream school. There may be some sleepless nights and moments of frustration along the way, but you deserve to give yourself grace. You’ve worked so hard to reach this moment, and whatever happens next, your effort deserves celebration.
As you continue down the path toward finding your new college home, don’t forget your local Wake Forest admissions representative can serve as a valuable resource for any questions you have or if you have any important updates to add to your already-submitted application.
Through all the excitement and nerves, you are so close to embarking on a journey of self-discovery and exploration. My time as a Demon Deacon has given me opportunities I never thought were possible and exposed me to perspectives that I will carry with me forever. Ambitions I once thought were set in stone have completely changed, and I’ve built relationships through sheer happenstance.
I can’t wait for you to start your grand adventure!
Stay awesome, stay you, and Go Deacs!
