Job Title: Social Studies Teacher, Guilford County Schools
Current City: Winston-Salem, NC
My four years spent at Wake Forest have been filled with many smiles, many laughs, many moments of elation, personal and intellectual inquiry, and self-improvement. After spending my childhood as a Wake Forest fan, I was so happy to follow in my dad’s footsteps and become a Demon Deacon. During my time at Wake, I have engaged within the theatre community, cheered on the Demon Deacons during my victories (and even some losses), traveled the country with the Wake the Vote cohort, discussed the social problems of the global community with many professors, and made friends who will last a lifetime, but the highlight of my time at Wake Forest was serving as the President of the Wake Forest College Democrats. It was amazing getting to serve an organization of similarly passionate individuals. While my tenure as President was filled with peaks and valleys, I was able to learn so much about myself as a leader, and I hope I was able to convey the importance of remaining politically vigilant to many of my Wake Forest peers. Despite the fact the election did not conclude the way we wished, I believe we were able to accomplish so much in 2016.
After graduating, I will remain in the Piedmont Triad serving as a Social Studies teacher in the Guilford County School system through Teach For America. I believe by serving a community that has given so much to me, and helping to work towards one of the biggest problems facing our world today, with regards to educational inequality, I will be continuing to live the motto of Wake Forest University, “Pro Humanitate”.
